HOW IT WORKS

What the machine does, and how it is run.

Large roof structures still need maintenance, and the crew has to get to any point on them. A fixed gantry covers one line; a mobile platform covers the roof, which is why almost every large span ends up with one.

GANI supplied the drive, positioning and safety electronics: travel drive control with position feedback so the platform knows where it is on the structure, wind and end-of-travel monitoring, and an operator station on the platform itself so the person moving it is the person on it.

Its passengers are people, and that is what sets where the safety case starts. The safety circuit is rated for personnel on board, which changes the design from a materials-handling problem into one where every credible failure has to end in a controlled stop.
