32-axis under-bridge maintenance vehicle

The underside of a bridge deck is the part that has to be inspected and maintained and the part nobody can reach. There is no floor beneath it, the traffic above cannot stop for long, and whatever carries the crew has to be as trustworthy as the structure it is hanging from.

This vehicle reaches it from the deck. A 32-axis motion architecture carries a modular cage and platform structure out over the edge and back underneath, giving the maintenance crew a working area under the deck rather than a rope and a harness.

The axis count is not a specification for its own sake. Reaching a point under a deck while staying clear of the structure, the parapet and the traffic lane means every one of those motions has to be coordinated — and it means the failure of any one of them has to be a controlled stop, because there are people on the platform.
